Are you already missing your local food fix with the closing of many farmers' markets for the season and the end of the Gladstone Harvest Wednesdays series? Fear not, because local food champion Jamie Kennedy is still running his weekly Local Food Movement Dinner Series at Gilead (4 Gilead Place, east of Parliament, south off King, 647-288-0680).
Each event starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes hors d'oeuvres and a four-course dinner for $75 (+tax & tip), with flights of Ontario VQA wines available for an extra cost. Besides local wines, each dinner highlights a local food producer. Only 36 seats are available for each one.
- Thursday, November 5: Vicki's Veggies and Sandbanks Estate Winery (Prince Edward County – try their Estate Baco Noir, which is also available for only about $15 at the LCBO.*)
- Thursday, November 12: Glengarry Cheese and Tawse Winery (Niagara)
- Wednesday, November 18: Cumbrae Farms and Rosehall Run Winery (Prince Edward County – they produce the Jamie Kennedy label Pinot Noir and Chardonnay)
- Thursday, November 26: Scotch Mountain Meats and By Chadsey's Cairns Winery (Prince Edward County – try their Gewürztraminer!)
- Thursday, December 3: Niagara Food Specialties (makers of Pingue Prosciutto) and Clos Jordanne (Niagara)
*The LCBO does not stock all wines by these wineries, so you may have an opportunity to pick up a few bottles that you would not normally be able to purchase. For instance, the folks at By Chadsey's Cairns will be taking orders, and will actually deliver product to you on the night if you pre-order with them at 613-399-2992.
