Edible Container Garden Contest at Withrow Park Farmers' Market

Made it to Withrow Park Farmer's Market (thanks to @foodie411) this morning, only to discover that my friend Gayla Trail of You Grow Girl fame was there with native plant guru Lorraine Johnson and Paul Zammit, director of horticulture at the Toronto Botanical Garden, to judge an Edible Container Garden Show.

It was an inaugural event created by Withrow Park Farmers' Market with Toronto Balconies Bloom (which, as its name suggests, exists to promote balcony gardening). Gayla's the one with the dark T-shirt and jeans; Paul's next to her, and Lorraine is farthest to the right.

There were some great entries, like a Three Sisters (corn, beans, squash) planter by school kids, and an ingenious multi-tier planter with a built-in composting chamber.

As for me, I got some purple beans, some potatos, apricots for jam and a delightful summer sausage. As you can see.
